Outram Ya Hua Rou Gu Cha Restaurant

Today I was at Keppel Road to have Bak Kut Teh at this place called Outram Ya Hua Rou Gu Cha Restaurant. This place is very popluar and well known for their Bak Kut Teh. Here's what I have ordered:

- Spare Ribs Soup

The Spare Ribs Soup was delicious, the soup base was filled with the goodness from the pork ribs and white pepper which is why it's a little spicy. The pork rib is tender and the layer of fats melt in your mouth. The doneness of the pork ribs were perfect. If you like your soup spicy with white pepper, you must try this!

- Braised Pig Trotter

The Braised Pig Trotter is pretty normal and I find that it's a little salty due to the braised sauce. The doneness of the Braised Pig Trotter can be softer if it's stewed longer.

- Braised Pig Intestine

The Braised Pig Intestine is also pretty normal, I find that the pig intestines are overcooked and the braised sauce is too salty.

- Salted Vegetables

I find that the Salted Vegetables are pretty good. It is not too salty and certainly has what it takes to boost your appetite.

The total bill came up to S$27.70 including drinks. Overall, I find that the Bak Kut Teh and Salted Vegetables are pretty good compared to the other 2 dishes which I think could be missed.

Yong Cheng Bak Kut Teh (榕城肉骨茶)

I  went to Yong Cheng Bak Kut Teh at Sing Ming Road for lunch today. The coffeeshop was packed with lots of people waiting for seats due to the lunch crowd. While I was waiting, I saw alot of people eating Bak Kut Teh as well. I ordered the Bak Kut Teh, Braised Pork Trotter, Pork Liver Soup with Vegetables and Preserved Vegetables also called the "Mei Chai". The soup is filled with the goodness from the pork rib and spices such as the white pepper and garlic. I find that the meat from the rib bone is just nice and the meat is not too tough as compared to the other parts of the pork rib that was served. This Bak Kut Teh does not have any herbal or black pepper taste, it just has an original flavour of the pork. I find that the Pork Trotter is a little salty and the Pork Trotter is not soft enough. I think it will be better if it is braised longer. If you like pork liver, the fresh vegetables from the Pork Liver Soup help to balance the diet after eating so much meat. The Preserved Vegetables are not too salty and I find it nice and soft. Overall, I find that the Bak Kut Teh is pretty good especially if you don't like any herbal or black pepper taste for Bak Kut Teh. The soup is filled with the rich natural goodness of the pork and it's definitely very tasty.

Leon Kee Claypot Pork Rib Soup

I was on my usual hunt for food and happen to chance upon this stall at Alexander Food Centre. I noticed that there was a queue at this Leon Kee Claypot Pork Rib Soup. Being curious, I went around to check out what most people are ordering from this stall. I noticed that their Bak Kut Teh and Kway Chap are the popular items. I decided to try both the Bak Kut Teh as well as the Kway Chap. The Bak Kut Teh is served in a claypot which makes the soup piping hot, retaining the heat while you are enjoying it. The soup is rich with herbs, adding flavour to the Bak Kut Teh. It tastes like tonic soup. The texture of the pork rib is very lean without any layer of fat but I think there should be a little fat to make the pork rib a little more tender. If you like Bak Kut Teh with herbs, this is similar to Klang Bak Kut Teh.
