Sheng Cheng Char Kway Teow

I had craving for a nice plate of Fried Kway Teow and decided to check out this stall at Jalan Bukit Merah. Heard that the cockles used are freshly shelled by the stall owner himself. I ordered a big plate of Fried Kway Teow for S$3.00. The secret of Fried Kway Teow is the black sauce and chilli sauce, it cannot be too sweet or salty. It has to be given the right amount of black sauce and chilli sauce. To add flavour to the dish, fresh ingredients such as fish cake, cockles, bean sprouts and eggs are added to make it complete. However, the Kway Teow is not as fragrant or tasty as expected and personally I think that he can add a little more black sauce or chilli sauce to add more flavour to the dish. I'm very impressed by the small cubes of deep fried lard that was added. It's explodes in your mouth when you are chewing it. I must comment that it's definitely better than any of your average Fried Kway Teow.

Stammtisch Restaurant

This restaurant is along Bukit Timah Road, well known by the people staying around the vicinity. The service is as great as the food. For starters, we ordered the Hungarian Goulash. It is very appetising and there are small cutes of beef, onions, carrots and potatoes. As for the main course, we ordered the Pork Knuckle and Pork Schinitzel. I must say this is the best Pork Knuckle that I have ever tasted. The Pork Knuckle is very crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The meat is so tender and juicy that it seems like they have stewed the Pork Knuckle. The brown sauce goes extremely well with the Pork Knuckle. I must say that when you are eating this dish, you don't feel "gelard" at all but the serving is enough for two unless you are a big eater or feeling extremely hungry that day. You can actually hear the crackling sound when you put the skin into your mouth like you are eating "Keropok". The restaurant also has other specialties such as the Pork Schinitzel. I must say the Pork Schinitzel is very crispy and well marinated. Overall the food is fantastic and definitely not to be missed.

Lobster Porridge Long Xia Zhou Shi Jia

The Lobster Porridge is probably one of those expensive dishes that you will not eat on any other day except on special occasions. You will expect this dish to be rich in flavour especially when you use ingredients like the lobster and true enough, the soup has a rich lobster taste. The natural goodness of the lobster makes the soup(and porridege) extremely sweet and tasty. The flesh of the lobster is succulent and fresh but it will be even better if the lobster is bigger instead of giving half a lobster. It's a perfect dish on a rainy day.
