Tawandang Microbrewery

It has been quite a while since I chilled out with my buddy, I made a reservation at Tawandang Microbrewery to chill out that evening. I have been there a couple of times with my wife and friends. I find that their food is pretty good and I especially like their Deep Fried Pork Knuckle. Here's what we have ordered:

- Spicy Tom Yam Soup with River Prawns and Coconut Milk

The Tom Yam Soup is tasty and and very appetising. Even though they added coconut milk, it still taste like the clear Tom Yam Soup. The ingredients are fresh and the prawns are also very succulent. However, for those of you who are not able to take spicy food, this might be beyond your threshold.

- Deep Fried Pork Knuckle Served With Spicy Sauce

The Deep Fried Pork Knuckle is my favourite dish, the skin is crispy on the outside and the meat does not taste oily. This dish goes well with the spicy chilli sauce. Even the side dishes like the radish taste very good, it is well marinated with spices that makes it very fragrant.

Overall, I find that the food is pretty good and it's a nice place to dine and have a mug of beer to chill. Cheers!

Depot Road Zhen Shan Mei Claypot Laksa

Today, I was at Bukit Merah Hawker Centre to have my favourite laksa from Depot Road Zhen Shan Mei Claypot Laksa. It has been quite a while since I had a delicious bowl of laksa, you can always see a long queue at this stall and the expected waiting time is about 20 minutes. I ordered the big Claypot Laksa for S$5.50. The smell of the Laksa was already oozing out from the claypot even before I even taste it. The taste was even better than the smell. The gravy was thick and very fragrant, the bee hoon has aborbed the goodness of the gravy, making it very tasty. The secret to their success is their freshly squeezed coconut milk and fresh ingredients that makes the Laksa taste so good. You can find ingredients like bean sprouts, cockles, shredded chicken, tau pok, fish cake and prawns. The claypot also helps to maintain the temperature of the Laksa so that the customers can enjoy the hot and piping Laksa. I find that the wait was well worth it and it sure was satifying. Overall, this is one of the best Laksa I have ever tasted. You must give it a try or you will regret it!

Lawry's The Prime Rib Singapore

Today, I was with my wife at Lawry's to check out their famous roast prime rib beef. Lawry's well known internationally for their finest quality beef. Every prime rib is specially selected, then aged and slowly roasted for natural tenderness. Here's what we tried:

- The Famous Original Spinning Bowl Salad

The salad is appetising and the vegetables are fresh and crunchy. The ingredients like crisp romaine, iceberg lettuce, watercress, shredded beets, chopped eggs and croutons are tossed with their exclusive Lawry's vintage dressing on a bed of ice. This dish is served with every main course you order.

- Classic Minestrone

The soup is very appetising, you can find ingredients like carrots, tomatoes, kidney beans, leek and onions.

- Cream Of Mushroom

The soup is tasty, it is thick and filled with the natural goodness of the mushrooms. You can even taste the mushroom bits in the soup.

- Yorkshire Pudding

The Yorkshire Pudding is delicious with a tinge of sweetness, it is baked in small skillets till it's puffy and golden brown.

- The Lawry's Cut

The roast beef is absolutely delicious, it is the best I have ever tasted. I asked for the doneness of the beef to be medium and the texture is just perfect. The beef is fresh and does not have any beefy smell even though it does not taste heavily marinated. The beef is also roasted till it's nice and juicy, even the tendons and fats melt and dissolve in your mouth. The beef also goes well with the horseradish. If you like wasabi, you will find the taste heavenly. I find the the Idaho Mashed Potatoes smooth and it goes well with the sauce. The Creamed Corn is very tasty naturally sweetness.

- Champagne Cajun Fish & Chips

The batter is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The fish is also very fresh and does not have any fishy smell. It also goes well with the vinegar that makes the dish very appetising.

- English Trifle

The English Trifle has a refreshing taste that is not too sweet, the light and fluffy sponge cake is laced with Rum, Sherry, vanilla custard cream, strawberries, and fresh whipped cream. What a way to end the meal.

Overall, I find that the beef is superb and you must definitely try it once in a lifetime or you will not know the goodness that you are missing out on.

Fu Shi Traditional Roasted. Wanton Noodles (福市 传统 烧腊. 云吞面)

I finally got a chance to try out the roasted delicacy from this staIl after several failed attempts. I ordered a plate of Roast Pork with Char Siew Rice for S$3.50. The Roast Pork is delicious, the skin is crispy on the outside and the meat is tender. The layer of fats seems to dissolve in your mouth yet it's not too oily. The Char Siew is also very tender and it has been roasted till it's slightly charred, the meat is well marinated with the char siew sauce. The rice is so fragrant and tasty that you can even eat it on it's own. The braised sauce also goes well with the rice. This is one of the better Roast Pork and Char Siew I have tasted. Must try!

Lai Wah Restaurant

It has more than a year since I patronized this restaurant called Lai Wah Restaurant. This restaurant has a long history and has been around since 1963.  This is also the first restaurant to serve the Chinese New Year Yu Sheng.

Here's what we have ordered:

- Pi Pa Duck

The Pi Pa Duck is crispy on the outside and the meat is tender on the inside. However, I find that that sauce was kindof too sweet and does not go well with the duck maybe because the duck itself has a strong flavour.

- Mandarin Stewed Chicken

This dish is my all time favourite, the chicken is very delicious, it is stewed till it's nice and soft and it has absorbed the goodness of the sauce in which you can also find tau kee and black fungus in it. I would highly recommend that you try this dish or you will regret.

- Crispy Squids with Salted Egg Yolk

The Crispy Squid is indeed crispy, the crust is coated with salted egg yolk that makes the dish very fragrant.

- Beancurd with Fish Maw, Sea Cucumber and Vegetables

The Beancurd is also very tasty, it is s silky and smooth, accompanied with fish maw, sea cucumber and vegetables. The fish maw and sea cucumber is nice and soft and more importantly, it goes well with the braised sauce that makes the dish very tasty.

- Stir Fry Sambal Long Beans

I find that Sambal Long Beans is pretty normal but I must say that their sambal chilli is very fragrant. This dish could have been even better if the long beans are cooked till it's softer and sprinkled with small crispy fried shrimps.

- Seafood Braised Rice

The Braised Rice is tasty and the rice is slightly charred, adding more flavour to the dish. You can find seafood such as prawns, sotong and sliced fish that is very fresh. The braised sauce tastes light yet delicious and more importantly, it is not oily.

Overall, I find that  their food is pretty good and the restaurant has lots of hidden treasures that I have yet to try out. You must also check this place out yourself to believe.

Joo Chiat Prawn Mee

It has been quite a while since I check out a new food stall to recommend. Today, I was at Crane Road to check out this stall called Joo Chiat Prawn Mee. I ordered a bowl of Pork Rib Kway Teow dry with chilli and Prawn Bee Hoon dry with chilli for S$5.00 each. The Kway Teow was silky and smooth, it goes very well with the chilli and the dish was garnished with lots of fried spring onions, making it very fragrant. The soup was very tasty, it is filled with the goodness from the prawn and pork ribs. However, I find that if the pork ribs are more tender, it would have been perfect. The Bee Hoon also goes well with the chilli and the fried spring onions is an important ingredient to the dish. It's a pity that the prawns are not very fresh and it sticks to the shell. Overall, I find that the soup is superb, so are the chilli and spring onions. You can give it a try if you are around the area.
