Zhong Xing Fu Zhou Fish Ball And Lor Mee

I was at Maxwell Food Centre today for lunch. I decided to order Lor Mee from this stall called Zhong Xing Fu Zhou Fishball and Lor Mee. This is one of my all time favourite Lor Mee. The gravy is savoury, a traditional taste that I find very unique. This dish brings back old memories of how Lor Mee should taste. However, the gravy is a little too watery and it would be perfect if it's more thick and gluey. You can find ingredients like lor bak, fried meat ball, fried fish meat, fishcake and bean sprouts. If you add a little vinegar, the Lor Mee will be even tastier. This is certainly one of the better Lor Mee that I have tasted.

Yi Tiao Long (一條龍)

I had a craving for Fried Carrot and Yam Cake today. Yes, it's a combination of both carrot and yam cake. For those of you who may be wondering where this stall that sells this new creation is,  it's located in  Wah Yen Eating House at Sin Ming. The stall's name is Yi Tiao Long. I ordered a large plate of Fried Carrot and Yam Cake for S$4.00 which is enough for 2 person. The Fried Carrot and Yam Cake is very fragrant and taste absolutely delicious. You can taste the softness of the yam and carrot cake with ingredients like the dried shrimp and mushrooms. The combination is definitely a fantastic creation. You must try this new creation that is not to be missed.

Chia Kee Fishball Kway Teow Noodle

I have made several wasted trips to Whampoa Drive Makan Place in my attempt to try the fishball noodles from this stall called Chia Kee Fishball Kway Teow Noodle. Most of the times, the stall was not opened when I was there. I decided to try my luck again today and am delighted to see the stall open. I ordered a bowl of Dry Fishball Noodle for S$3.00. The amount of vinegar and chilli sauce that was added into the noodle was just right, making it very delicious. There were ingredients like minced pork, sliced pork, fishballs, fishcake and fish dumpling. The dish was garnished with fried spring onions. The texture of the fishball is fresh and bouncy. Despite the several wasted trips made, I must say that it's still worthwhile.

Nirai-Kanai Okinawan Restaurant

I brought my wife to Nirai-Kanai Okinawan Restaurant for dinner today. This place is well know for its authentic Okinawan cuisine. It incorporates influences from Chinese cuisine and Southeast Asian cuisine due to trading businesses in the past. Pork is also a must have in Okinawan cuisine.

This Japanese restaurant is one of the few that I like to patronise. My wife likes to eat their Stir Fried Pork and Vegetables with spicy Kimchi. We ordered their Okinawan Famous Stewed Pork Belly, Bittergourd with Tofu, Pork and Egg as well as my wife's favourite Stir Fried Pork and Vegetables with spicy Kimchi. For Pork lovers, this restaurant is well known for their Pork Belly. It is so soft that when you can easily break it using your chopsticks. When you place the pork in your mouth, the goodness is beyond description. The layer of fat will just dissolve and melt in your mouth. Another Okinawan speciality is the bittergourd. The bittergourd is stir fried with tofu, pork and egg making it a perfect combination. The pork which is nice and soft added more flavour to the dish. For bittergourd lovers, this is one dish not to be missed. Lastly, the Stir Fried Pork and Vegetables with spicy Kimchi was very appetising. The pork is thinly sliced and stir fried with cabbage, bean sprouts and kimchi. The ingredients has absorbed the flavour of the kimchi making it a little sourish hence extremely appetising. My wife could really finish her bowl of white rice with just this dish. All the 3 dishes are simple but delicious. Overall, this is the best authentic and traditional Japanese cuisine that I have ever tasted.

Wok Inn Fish and Chips

It has been a long time since I had a nice plate of Fish and Chips. I heard that this stall at Toa Payoh called Wok Inn Fish and Chips serves very good Fish and Chips. I decided to check out this stall and when I was there I noticed that most of the people at the coffeeshop were either waiting with the number tag on the table or eating Fish and Chips. I ordered the Fish and Chip for S$5.80 and I was given a number tag as well. After waiting for about 15 minutes, the dish was finally served. The Fish and Chips looked delicious and true enough, the outer crust was fried till golden yellow on the outside and the fish was nice and fresh on the inside. The batter was thin and nicely coated onto the fish, making the fish nice and juicy. For the price and quality of the food, it was certainly value for money. If you have craving for Fish and Chips, this is definitely one that can satisfy you at cheaper prices.

Jason Penang Cuisine

Today I had a craving for Penang Food and so I decided to head down to this stall at ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre called Jason Penang Cuisine. As usual, I would order their Hokkien Prawn Bee Hoon Soup and their Penang Char Kway Teow. The Hokkien Prawn Bee Hoon Soup is simply delicious, the soup has a rich prawny taste and there are ingredients like prawns, sliced pork, hard boiled egg and bean sprouts with lots of fried spring onions as garnish. The Bee Hoon is delicious after absorbing the flavour from the soup. This is one of the better Penang Food that I have tasted.

Poon Nah City Home Made Noodle

My wife had craving for the Mee Hoon Kway at City Plaza today. This is one of her favourite Mee Hoon Kway stall that she will go to once in a while. One thing that I find it different about this Mee Hoon Kway is that the soup is clear yet tasty and filled with the goodness from the ingredients such as minced pork, vegetables, mushrooms and Ikan bilis. Personally I find that the texture of the Kway is a little too thick and can be thinner. Their chilli sauce goes extremely well in the soup but let me warn you first, the chilli is very spicy and unless you have a high tolerance for chilli like me, otherwise please try a little first. If you are around the area you can check out this stall.

Ah Chuan Fried Oyster Omelette

Being the food lover that I am, I was so eager to check out this stall after a friend recommended it to me and I'm glad that I did. Upon arriving at the stall, it was hard to miss the display of accolades by the various gourmet critics like Makansutra, Greenbook, Bestfood etc. The stall owner had also proudly displayed pictures of celebrities who had patronised the stall. Excitedly, I ordered a large plate of Fried Oyster Omelette for S$5.00. The dish was served after about 10 minutes. The Fried Oyster Omelette has a thin texture that is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The eggs and their homemade chilli sauce that is fried with the oysters and batter makes the dish taste perfect. The usual chilli sauce that is served separately with the Fried Oyster Omelette gives it a sourish taste when dipped in it thus, making the dish even more appetising. I must say that the oyster omelette tastes so good that this stall deserves nothing less than the awards it has received.

133 Penang Authentic Prawn Noodle/Char Kway Teow

After my morning exercise at Bukit Timah Hill, I went to Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre for breakfast today. I noticed that there was a Penang Food stall selling Penang delicacies. I decided to order the Hokkien Prawn Noodle Soup and Char Kway Teow. The Hokkien Prawn Noodle Soup is tasty and filled with a light prawny taste. It consists of ingredients like prawns, fish cake, hard boiled egg, kang kong and bean sprouts. If you like your noodles spicy, the chilli sauce will not only make the noodles spicy but also add more flavour to the dish. The Char Kway Teow is delicious and is not too salty, they added alot of bean sprouts to give it a clean and crunchy taste. You can find ingredients like prawns, cockles, fish cake, eggs and bean sprouts. Overall, I think it's worth giving this a try if you are around the area.

Bukit Purmei Lor Mee

I had a craving for Lor Mee today and decided to head down to Bukit Purmei to have my all time favourite Lor Mee. When I was there, I noticed that there was already a queue of people as usual. I ordered a large bowl of Lor Kway Teow for only S$3.50. The gravy is thick and tasty with a tinge of sweetness and the ingredients consists of lor bak, char siew, fish cake and crispy crumb cubes to go with the kway teow. The lor bak is tasty and has absorbed the sweetness and goodness of the stewed sauce. The char siew is also lean and a great compliment to the Lor Mee. The vinegar and chilli sauce not only add flavour to the Lor Mee but also make the whole dish more tasty. This is one Lor Mee not to be missed.
