Li Fang Zhou Pin (麗芳粥品)

I was at Yuhua Hawker Centre for breakfast today. I heard that there's a stall that sells nice porridge so I decided to check out this stall callIed Li Fang Zhou Pin. When I was there, I noticed they were also  featured in the variety show, "Where The Queue Starts". Luckily there wasn't many people at the queue, I joined in the queue and ordered their signature, Mixed Pork Porridge. The porridge is smooth and very tasty, the ingredients are fresh and there are minced pork ball, sliced pork, slices of pig stomach and deep fried intestines, garnished with sliced ginger and fried spring onions. The bowl of porridge is served with a strip of You Tiao. I'm usually not keen in the you tiao that comes with the porridge but I must say that their you tiao is quite crispy.

Something worth highlighting is their deep fried intestines. They are fried till crispy and fragrant, adding more flavour to the dish. Overall, I find that this porridge is one of the better ones I have tasted.

Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee

Today I was at Hong Lim Food Centre for lunch. It was pretty quiet today as most people should be sleeping after watching the live reports of the PE 2011. It was a great timing to queue for the famous Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee. I ordered a big bowl of Curry Chicken Bee Hoon for S$5.50. The Curry Chicken Bee Hoon was absolutely delicious. The gravy is thick and fragrant and the chicken is tender. I am quite fussy over the doneness of potatoes but I like their potatoes that are cooked till it's nice and soft. You can also find ingredients like fishcake, tau pok and bean sprouts. If you like your curry mee spicy, you can add some sambal chilli and your curry mee will be more fragrant and spicy. You can even taste the small bits of dried shrimp in the chilli sauce. However, if you are health concious, you might find this dish is a little oily. But for a nice bowl of curry noodles like this, I think it's definitely worth you exercising to burn the extra calories away. You must not give this a miss.

Rui Ji Teochew Fishball Noodle

Whenever I think of having a bowl of fishball Noodles for supper, it has to be Rui Ji Teochew Fishball Noodles. This place is popular for late night supper.  I would usually order their Fishball You Mee Dry with Chilli. The fishball is tasty and fresh, the texture is succulent and bouncy. The fish cake is also tasty and it's unique fish dumpling is wholesome, juicy and fresh.

But what keeps me going back to this stall lies in the noodles and the chilli sauce. The doneness of the noodles is just nice, causing the noodles,"you mee" to be very springy. The sambal chilli is the secret to their Fishball noodles, the chilli is extremely fragrant and makes the noodles very flavourful and tasty. Do be warned that the chilli is pretty spicy, do not add too much if you can't take spice. Lastly, the fried spring onions garnished on top makes the dish even more fragrant, adding even more points to the bowl of fishball noodles. Overall, I find that this is one Fishball Noodles not to be missed.

Big Ben's Place

This is the first time I visited Swan Lake Avenue to check out the pies at this bistro called Big Ben's Place. I ordered one Chicken & Mushroom Pie and one Steak & Guinness Pie. I also ordered a plate of Fish and Chips for the main course. Here's my verdict:

- Chicken & Mushroom Pie

The crust is soft and the pie is filled with thick sauce that flows out when you cut open the pie. The chicken is tender and chunky and the sauce is tasty. However, I felt that two very important ingredients are wrongfully left out - potatoes and carrots. Otherwise, the pie would have been much better.

- Steak and Guinness Pie

I was very surprised that the Steak and Guinness Pie is also pretty good. You can find cubes of steak when you cut the pie. The steak was tender and the sauce was awesome, the combination between the steak and guinness was perfect. The guinness adds more flavour to the steak making the pie very tasty. Likewise, I felt that some potatoes and carrots will make the pie taste even better.

- Fish and Chips

The fish is very fresh and the batter was well done making the crust tasty and crispy. The fries that was served was sprinkled with cajun powder. I find that it would be even better if the crust was less oily . I think this Fish and Chips is slightly above the average that we can find in cafes.

Kim Kee Cooked Food

Today, I was at Tanjong Pagar Food Centre for breakfast before going to the polling centre to cast my vote.
In the nice and cold whether, what would make a better choice than a bowl of hot porridge? I always like the porridge from this stall called Kim Kee Cooked Food. I ordered a bowl of Pork and Liver Porridge with egg. The porridge is smooth and tasty, the ingredients are fresh and one thing unique is that they add watercress into the porridge. The watercress is soft and crunchy, adding more flavour to the porridge. The minced meat ball is wholesome and the sliced pork and pork liver is tender. If you add an egg into the porridge it will make the porridge nice and thick. Lastly, the spring onions that was sprinkled on top makes the porridge fragrant and more flavourful. Overall, I find that the porridge is pretty good and is definitely a healthy choice.

Come Daily Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee

I haven't got to eat from my favourite Fried Hokkien Mee stall, Come Daily Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee, since they changed their operating hours. Today, my craving is finally satisfied as I made a trip to Toa Payoh in the afternoon. This stall is very popular and it has won numerous awards for the cook's fine culinery skills. I ordered a plate of Hokkien Mee for S$8.00 and this portion is enough for 2-3 persons. The Hokkien Mee is awesome! The noodles and bee hoon has absorbed the goodness of the broth. The lard that was added into the Hokkien Mee makes it very fragrant and the small cubes of lard is so crispy that it just explodes in your mouth. This is definitely one thing worth you forgetting about being health conscious for a moment. You can also find ingredients like prawns, sotong, bean sprouts and eggs. Overall, the  This is one Hokkien Mee not to be missed. Every mouthful is a conviction that the cook has perfected the skills of frying his Hokkien Mee. Thumbs up!

Xin Xin Famous Fried Oyster

I was recommended to this Fried Oyster Omelette stall called Xin Xin Famous Fried Oyster located at Clementi West Food Centre. When I was there, I ordered a plate of Fried Oyster Omelette for S$4.00. The Fried Oyster Omelette is delicious. The crust is a little crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. However if you are health conscious, do note this dish is might be a little too oily for you. Overall, I find that this Fried Oyster Omelette is pretty good and one of the better ones in the west.

Shi Mei Restaurant

Today I was at Potong Pasir and I found out from one of the residents there that there is a Roast Chicken Rice stall called Shi Mei Restaurant that is very popular with the people staying in this estate. Therefore, I headed down to the restaurant to try out their chicken rice. I ordered Roast Chicken Rice for 2 and that cost S$7.50. The Roast Chicken is fragrant and tender, even the chicken breast is not tough nor dry. The rice is also tasty and fragrant but I find that it will be better if it's softer and less grainy. Overall, I find that this Roast Chicken Rice is pretty good and you can check it out if you are around the area.

Soon Lee Food Stall

I was at Tanglin Halt Food Centre to have a bowl of Pig Leg Mee Pok at this stall called Soon Lee Food Stall. This stall has been awarded certificates for good culinary skills for their Pig Leg Noodle. The Pig Leg Mee Pok is delicious - the Pig Leg is fragrant and stewed till it's soft and tender. The layer of fats is fragrant and so soft that it melts in your mouth. The texture of the mee pok is just nice, not too soft and springy. Chilli sauce and vinegar were added in the right amount, making the mee pok very tasty. The stew sauce made the whole dish very tasty and fragrant. A bowl of Pig Leg Mee Pok cost S$3.00 and they are generous with the portion. This is definitely value for money. You must check out this stall if you are around the area.

Speakeasy Wine Bar

I was at Blair Road today to check out this place called Speakeasy Wine Bar. This place is nice and quiet  to chill out on a Saturday evening. I ordered a Mini Steak to go with my beer. The Mini Steak is delicious. The steak is well marinated and tender and the potato gratin is also soft and fluffly. This is one of the better steak I have tasted.
