Geylang Clay Pot Rice

Today I was around Geylang after picking my wife. While I was thinking of what to eat for dinner, I remembered that there is this famous Claypot Rice in Geylang. As I was searching for the Claypot Rice stall, I saw the signboard at the side of the road called Geyland Clay Pot Rice. I went to check out the Claypot Rice at this coffeeshop along Lorong 33. I ordered the Claypot Rice and Stir Fried French Beans with Shrimp. I noticed that some people who just came in had their food served in just 5 minutes and learned that they had called in previously to place their orders. You are encourage to order the Claypot Rice in advance or you have to wait for at least 25 minutes if you just walk in. After waiting for 25 minutes or so the Claypot Rice finally arrived. The Claypot Rice was tasty filled with fragrant scent of the salted fish and chicken. The chicken was delicious and well marinated, the chicken is also soft and tender. The chinese sausages are very tasty and fragrant. The French Beans is very tasty as well, sprinkled with crispy dried shrimps adding more flavour to the dish. Overall, I find that this is one of the better Claypot Rice I have tasted. The French Beans with Shrimp is also pretty good. You can check out this stall if you have craving for Claypot Rice. Remember to order in advance or you will have to wait for 25 minutes.

Penang Seafood Restaurant

A friend strongly recommended me to check out this Penang Seafood Restaurant at Geylang. When I was there, I noticed many people waiting for a table. The whole place was very crowded. I also noticed that the stall has won some awards by the various food variety channels including Makansutra. Here's what I ordered:

-
Penang Fried Kway Teow

The Penang Fried Kway Teow was tasty and it tastes very similar to the one in Penang. It consists of ingredients like prawns, bits of lard, bean sprouts, chinese sausages, cockles and eggs. The bits of lard that was added in the Fried Kway Teow kind of exploded in my mouth when I chewed it.

- Small Prawn Bee Hoon

The Small Prawn Bee Hoon is tasty and the soup has a rich prawny taste that goes well with the bee hoon. I'm not a prawn lover but these small prawns was crunchy and the texture is wholesome. It's like eating dried shrimps. You can also find ingredients like kang kong, bean sprouts, hard boiled egg, sliced pork and prawns. This Small Prawn Bee Hoon is one of the better ones I have tasted.

- Assam Laksa

The Assam Laksa is absolutely awesome. The gravy is thick and richly filled with the goodness from the kampong fish that was used. This dish is an appetiser booster, the Assam Laksa has ingredients like onions, pineapples cubes, cucumber strips and not forgetting the chunks of fish meat. You can actually taste the fish meat unlike other Assam Laksa that I have tasted. This Assam Laksa is comparable to the one in Penang and it is highly recommended. This is one dish you cannot miss if you visit this restaurant.

- Crispy Tofu

The Crispy Tofu is pretty all right, it is crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The tofu is mixed with fish meat and the combination is good. Take note that this dish is enough for about 3 to 4 person.

-
Baby Spinach Soup

The Baby Spinach Soup was delicious and the soup base was very thick, There are also eggs, salted eggs, century eggs, wolfberries and small bits of minced meat in the dish. On top of these, they added some crispy Ikan bilis on top making the texture even better when you chew it.

-
Shrimp Paste Chicken

The Shrimp Paste Chicken was tasty and very crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.

Overall, I find that the food is good and definitely one of the better Penang Food around. You must try it if you are around the area.

Yong He Eating House (永和豆浆油条大王)

It has been a long time since I had soya bean milk at Yong He Eating House. This is one of my old time favourite place for Soya Bean Milk and Soya Beancurd especially late in the middle of the night. When I was there I ordered a bowl of Hot Soya Bean Milk, Soya Beancurd, Toasted Bun With Pork Floss and Xiao Long Bao. The Soya Bean Milk is nice and smooth and most importantly fresh. For the Toasted Bun I find that the texture of the bun is a little too thick and would taste better if it's thinner. The Xiao Long Bao is steamed till it's soft but I find that the texture of the skin is too soft giving it a soggy texture but the meat taste wholesome. Overall, I find that you can try the snacks to go along with the Soya Bean Milk or Beancurd. Their Soya Bean Milk and Beancurd is one of the better ones that is fresh.

Poon Nah City Home Made Noodle

My wife had craving for the Mee Hoon Kway at City Plaza today. This is one of her favourite Mee Hoon Kway stall that she will go to once in a while. One thing that I find it different about this Mee Hoon Kway is that the soup is clear yet tasty and filled with the goodness from the ingredients such as minced pork, vegetables, mushrooms and Ikan bilis. Personally I find that the texture of the Kway is a little too thick and can be thinner. Their chilli sauce goes extremely well in the soup but let me warn you first, the chilli is very spicy and unless you have a high tolerance for chilli like me, otherwise please try a little first. If you are around the area you can check out this stall.

G7 Sin Ma Live Seafood Restaurant (新马活海鲜餐馆)

I was at G7 Sin Ma Live Seafood Restaurant with my friends for dinner. We ordered a Porridge, Gong Bao Frog Legs, Fried French Beans, Minced Meat Beancurd, Marmite Chicken, Deep Fried Promfret and Salt Egg Buttered Crabs. The Crab cost about S$45.00 per kilogram and the Promfet cost about S$7.50 per 100 grams. The Porridge is nice and smooth and goes well with the Gong Bao Sauce and Frog Legs. For the French Bean, it is kindof raw and salty, maybe, it's  due to the ikan bilis. The Beancurd is soft on the inside and fragrant on the outside but I find that the minced meat sauce will be better if it is thicker and tastier. The Marmite Chicken is a too salty but the doneness of the chicken is a little crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside but the marmite sauce is too salty. The Fried Promfret is crispy with a tinge of sour taste like Thai sauce that is sweet and sour. Lastly, the Salted Egg Buttered Crabs is very fragrant and the flesh is sweet. The total bill come up to S$264.10, including drinks and GST charges. Overall, I find that the meal is above average but if you are here just for the Porridge and Frog Legs, I think it's worth to try.

L32 Self Made Noodle

Whenever I think of having a good Ban Mian I would think of L32 Self Made Noodle at Geylang Lorong 32. As usual, I would order the Mee Hoon Kway with Pork. The texture of the Mee Hoon Kway is thin and smooth. You can find ingredients like, sliced pork, vegetables, ikan bilis and eggs. The clear soup is nice and sweet especially with the crispy ikan bilis that adds flavour to the Ban Mian. The chilli sauce is sour and spicy making the dish very appetising. If you are looking for a healthy meal, this is one stall not to be missed.
