Pasar Air Itam Laksa

There is a famous and popular stall at Air Itam opposite the wet market selling Assam Laksa called Pasar Air Itam Laksa. You can see alot of people sitting along the lanes, at the side of the stall, eating Assam Laksa. I ordered a bowl of Assam Laksa that cost RM3.00. The Assam Laksa came in very rich and thick gravy. There was also a generous serving of sardine fish with ingredients like pineapples, onions, mint leaves, minced sardine fish, assam paste, prawn paste and sliced chilli. The only difference between this stall and the one at Joo Hooi Cafe is that the soup is much thicker and tastier. This famous stall sure lives up to its name. It's good and you should try it if you are around the area.

Assam Laksa

If you are coming down from Kek Lok Si Temple, there is a coffeeshop at the foot of the hill called Kedai Kopi Nan Yang. There is a stall that sells Assam Laksa. The carpark attendant highly recommended this stall and commented that he would pay for the bowl of Assam Laksa if it was not nice. I ordered a bowl of Assam Laksa that cost RM3.00. The Laksa is not as thick compared to the one at Kopi Wah Meng and Pasar Air Itam Laksa. The ingredients are pretty much the same. There were pineapples, onions, mint leaves, minced sardine fish, assam paste, prawn paste and sliced chilli. This stall is one of the better ones that you can try out if you are unable to check out the stalls at Kopi Wah Meng and Pasar Air Itam Laksa.

Assam Laksa

Assam Laksa is one of the famous and popular dishes that you must try when you are in Penang. I was at Jalan Penang looking for this coffeeshop called Joo Hooi Cafe. The coffeeshop is located along Jalan Penang. There is a stall selling Assam Laksa at this Joo Hooi Cafe. I ordered a bowl of Assam Laksa that cost RM3.00. The gravy of the Assam Laksa is thick and filled with the rich flavour of the sardine fish together with ingredients like pineapples, onions, mint leaves, minced sardine fish, assam paste, prawn paste and sliced chilli. The Assam Laksa is very appetising and a little sweet due to the pineapples and prawn paste. It does not have any fishy taste or smell which is something I'm quite particular about. The portion of the Assam Laksa is small so you can try other food even after finishing a bowl of Assam Laksa. This is a dish you must try if you are in Penang.
