Mitzi Cantonese Restaurant (美食之家)

I was at Mitzi Cantonese Restaurant for dinner today with my wife to celebrate Fathers' Day with my Father-In-Law. One of the specialty of this restaurant is the Suckling Pig and Shark Fins Soup as well as Fish Maw Soup with Crabmeat. We ordered a Cold Dish, Crab Meat and Fish Maw Soup, Roasted Chicken Skin with Sotong Prawn Paste, Prawn Roll and Stir Fry Kailan. The first dish to be served is theCold Dish which consists of Mayonnaise Prawn Salad, Fried Eggs with Shark Fins, Fried Sesame Chicken, Jellyfish and Pork Ribs. I find that the Cold Dish is pretty normal but I must comment that the Fried Eggs with Shark Fins is very fragrant and tasty and the Fried Sesame Chicken is crispy and very fragrant with lots of sesame. It is also very thinly sliced, making it like Sesame Chicken Pancake. The Crab and Fish Maw Soup has lots of eggs and has a thick texture, it is filled with the goodness of the crabmeat and eggs making it absolutely delicious. The Roast Chicken Skin with Sotong Prawn Paste is very tasty, the chicken skin is crispy and the sotong prawn paste has a thin texture. For the Prawn Roll, I find that it has a fishy taste today and not as nice as the last time that I tasted it. Lastly for the Kailan, it was fresh and very crunchy. Overall, I find that all the dishes were pretty good except for the Prawn Roll which I think could be better. The total bill was $210 and that works out to be about $30 per pax. I will recommend this place for family gathering and celebrations but do remember to place your order in advance if you want to try their Suckling Pig and Peking Duck.

Spring Court Restaurant Pte Ltd (詠春园)

I brought my family to Spring Court Restaurant today for Fathers' Day celebration. This restaurant has been around since 1929, they are one of the oldest family operated restaurants. There was even a movie produced by Raintree Pictures in 2011 to capture Spring Court's memorable years in Great World. We ordered 2 rolls of Popiah, Roasted Chicken, Steamed Soon Hock, Braised Dried Oysters and Assorted Vegetables with Black Moss, Tofu with Minced Meat and Spinach and last but not least, Braised Noodles with Shredded Meat. For the Popiah, it is very tasty and filled with alot of ingredients like bean sprouts, fried bean curd, carrots, strips of turnip, minced hard boiled eggs and minced meat. For the Roast Chicken, the skin is nice and crispy on the outside and the meat taste fragrant but it is a little salty due to the salt that was sprinkled on the chicken. The Steamed Soon Hock is delicious and fresh, the fish was cooked with light soya sauce and other spicies and it tastes very good. The Braised Dried Oysters ans Assorted Vegetables with Black Moss is tasty, the oyster sauce was poured over the dish hence adding more flavour to the vegetables and mushrooms making it nice and smooth. The Tofu was nice and soft and they sit on a layer of spinach. A generous serving of minced meat in thick sauce was poured over the tofu, making the entire dish very delicious. As for the Braised Noodles with Shredded Meat, I find that it's not too dry and the gravy is not oily especially when your stomach is almost full. Overall I find that the food is pretty good and definitely one of the better ones that I have tasted.
