New Harbour Cafe & Bar

I was at Tanjong Pagar today making my way down to this restaurant called New Harbour Cafe & Bar to have dinner. This place is cosy and the decor has a cottage feel. When I was there, I ordered the Crackling Roast Pork served with daily vegetables and mashed potatos. The dish is served with onion gravy topped with apple sauce. The Crackling Roast Pork is delicious, the meat is tender and the layers of fat just melt in your mouth. The skin is crispy and goes well with the apple sauce, giving it a sweet and refreshing taste. Overall, I find that this is one of the best Roast Pork I have tasted. You must try it yourself to believe. Yummy!

Geylang Clay Pot Rice

Today I was around Geylang after picking my wife. While I was thinking of what to eat for dinner, I remembered that there is this famous Claypot Rice in Geylang. As I was searching for the Claypot Rice stall, I saw the signboard at the side of the road called Geyland Clay Pot Rice. I went to check out the Claypot Rice at this coffeeshop along Lorong 33. I ordered the Claypot Rice and Stir Fried French Beans with Shrimp. I noticed that some people who just came in had their food served in just 5 minutes and learned that they had called in previously to place their orders. You are encourage to order the Claypot Rice in advance or you have to wait for at least 25 minutes if you just walk in. After waiting for 25 minutes or so the Claypot Rice finally arrived. The Claypot Rice was tasty filled with fragrant scent of the salted fish and chicken. The chicken was delicious and well marinated, the chicken is also soft and tender. The chinese sausages are very tasty and fragrant. The French Beans is very tasty as well, sprinkled with crispy dried shrimps adding more flavour to the dish. Overall, I find that this is one of the better Claypot Rice I have tasted. The French Beans with Shrimp is also pretty good. You can check out this stall if you have craving for Claypot Rice. Remember to order in advance or you will have to wait for 25 minutes.

Nyonya & Baba Peranakan Cuisine

Today, I was around Beauty World area for dinner. I was walking down Cheong Chin Nam Road to check out the restaurants around the area. I decided to check out this restaurant called Nyonya & Baba Peranakan Cuisine. This place feels very cosy and the decor of the restaurant is very Peranakan. Here's what I have ordered:

- Babi Pongteh

The Babi Pongteh is delicious as it has aborbed the essence of the sauce. The pork belly is stewed till it's nice and soft and you can find ingredients like mushrooms to enhance the flavour. This dish is very good and you must order it if you are there.

- Sambal Kang Kong

The Sambal Kang Kong is pretty normal and I find that it can be better if the chilli sauce was more fragrant and if they add more dried shrimps to enhance the flavour.

- Nyonya Mee

This dish is also another dish you must try. The Nyonya Mee taste a little like the Hokkien Mee but the gravy has a strong seafood flavour making the noodles taste delicious. You can find ingredients like eggs, bean sprouts, prawns and slice pork belly. This is one of the better Nyonya Mee I have tasted.

- Hu Piao Soup

This is a disappointment. You can give this dish a miss. The soup tastes bland and does not have the natural sweetness and rich flavour of the fish maw.

Gu Zao Ren Seafood Taiwan Porridge

Today, my wife has craving for Teochew Porridge. I was thinking of the nearest place that I can bring her to satisfy her craving. And I immediately thought of this stall at  ABC Food Centre called Gu Zao Ren Seafood Taiwan Porrdge. I was there glad that the stall is open and the trip was not wasted. I ordered a Preserved Sliced Vegetables with Pork,  Salted Egg with Salted Fish and Minced Meat and Sambal Long Beans to go with the Sweet Potato Porridge. The Preserved Sliced Vegetables with Pork is delicious, the preserved vegetables are not too salty and it's nice and soft. The pork belly is stewed till it's soft and tender, the fats simply dissolve in your mouth. The Salted Egg with Salted Fish and Minced Meat is steamed till the meat is soft and the gravy is filled with the goodness from the salted eggs and fish. The minced meat is fresh and therefore the gravy has a natural sweetness. As for the Sambal Long Beans, I find that the long beans can be a little softer but the sambal with the dried shrimp sure makes the dish fragrant and tasty. I find that the dishes goes well with the porridge. You can give it a try if you are craving for Taiwan Porridge and if you do not mind it being a little pricey. What I like most is that the dishes are served hot as they only cook it when you order.

Wu Xiang Xia Bing

Today I was at Hong Lim Food Centre to check out this stall called Wu Xiang Xia Bing. I ordered the Wu Xiang, Fried Prawn Fritter and Intestine stuffed with meat. The Wu Xiang is tasty and filled with minced meat and cubes of chestnut with spices. The Fried Prawn Fritter is freshly made upon order, the texture is thin and has ingredients like prawns and bean sprouts. The Fried Prawn Fritter is not oily and has a soft texture on the inside. Lastly, the Intestine stuffed with meat is delicious, the meat is lean and has a sweet taste. The chilli sauce has peanut in it and it goes well with the dishes, especially if you like it spicy. Overall, I find that the Wu Xiang Xia Bing at this stall is fresh and worth a try.

The Ship Restaurant (船餐厅酒店)

Today I was with my wife at Shaw Centre shopping for some stuff. As it was lunch time, I decided to head to The Ship Restaurant. This restaurant is well known for their Steak. I ordered a Fried Chicken with Hot Sauce set meal and a Sirloin Steak with Madeira Sauce set meal. The set meal comes with a Soup of the Day but I changed it to my favourite Russian Borshch. The Borshch Soup has a rich beefy soup base and has ingredients like bell pepper, carrots, cabbage and tomatoes. If you add some sour cream to the soup, it will taste even more appetising. The Fried Chicken is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The hot sauce tastes like BBQ sauce and goes well with the chicken. As for the Sirloin Steak, I requested for medium doneness but it was served as almost well done. Fortunately, it was still nice. The madeira sauce is delicious hence adding more flavour to the steak. The total bill is S$35.10. Overall, I find that the food is pretty good and value for money.

Koo Kee Yong Tow Foo Mee

Today I was at People's Park Cooked Food Centre to have dinner. I ordered a bowl of Noodles with Yong Tow Foo at this stall called Koo Kee Yong Tow Foo Mee. The noodles are tasty and it is served with minced pork. The Yong Tow Foo is stuffed with fish meat and their speciality is the Wu Xiang, it is stuffed with fish instead of minced meat and wrapped in bean curd skin. The tofu is nice and soft, filled with the fish meat at the top. However, I find that the ingredients are too little. Overall, I find that you can never go wrong with Koo Kee Yong Tow Foo. You must try it yourself.

Queen Street Prawn Noodles (三马路祖传肉骨大虾面)

Today I decided to head down to Queen Street to patronize one of my favourite Prawn Noodles stall. It is called Queen Street Prawn Noodles. When I was there I ordered a bowl of Pork Rib Bee Hoon Soup. The soup is rich and filled with the goodness from the pork ribs and prawns. The pork ribs are very tasty and the texture is soft and tender. The Bee Hoon has also aborbed the rich flavour from the soup base making it very tasty indeed. In additional, the pork lard and fried spring onions completes the dish and makes it tastes even more fragrant. Overall, I find that the Prawn Noodle is very good and this is one stall not to be missed.

Bak Kee Teochew Satay Bee Hoon

I was at Redhill Food Centre for lunch today. As usual, I would walk around to check out the popular stalls around before ordering. I noticed that was a queue at this stall called Bak Kee Teochew Satay Bee Hoon. I joined in the queue and waited for around 20 minutes cause there was a man who ordered 17 packets of Satay Bee Hoon. Gosh, I guess he must be buying it for his colleagues or workers. I ordered a plate of Satay Bee Hoon for S$4.00. I'm not a fan of Satay Bee Hoon but I must say that their ingredients were very fresh. The satay sauce was not too sweet and the texture of the peanut bits  were just right making it very fragrant. The bee hoon goes well with the satay sauce and you can find ingredients like sliced pork, cuttlefish, pig liver, tau pok, bean sprouts and cockles. Overall, I find that the Satay Bee Hoon was pretty good due to the freshness of the ingredients.
