Red Lacquer Penang Peranakan

There are countless eataries at Jurong Point but one of the few that I will patronise is Red Lacquer Penang Peranakan Restaurant. This place serves pretty good Penang Food and you don't have to travel all the way to Penang to try out the popular dishes. Here's what I have ordered:

- Penang Char Kway Teow

The Penang Char Kway Teow is delicious, the kway teow is fragrant and tasty. The kway teow is tasty even on it's own. The kway teow is slightly charred and you can find ingredients like  prawns, chinese sausages, cockles, eggs and beansprouts. This is their signature dish and it is and highly recommended.

- Penang Hokkien Prawn Bee Hoon Soup

The Penang Hokkien Prawn Bee Hoon Soup is also delicious, the soup is thick and has a rich prawny taste with a tinge of sweetness. The thick soup base goes well with the bee hoon. You can find ingredients like prawns, hard boiled egg, kang kong, bean sprouts and sliced pork. The dish is garnished with fried spring onions hence making it more fragrant.

- Penang Assam Laksa

The Penang Assam Laksa is very appetising, you can find ingredients like chopped onions, pineapple cubes, sliced cucumber and sliced chilli. I find that their Assam Laksa gravy can be thicker with more sardine fish. If you are looking for something to enhance your appetite, you can order this dish.

The total bill was S$25.00. Overall, I find that the food is pretty good and if you are craving for Penang Food you can check out this place if you are around the area.

Penang Seafood Restaurant

A friend strongly recommended me to check out this Penang Seafood Restaurant at Geylang. When I was there, I noticed many people waiting for a table. The whole place was very crowded. I also noticed that the stall has won some awards by the various food variety channels including Makansutra. Here's what I ordered:

- Penang Fried Kway Teow

The Penang Fried Kway Teow was tasty and it tastes very similar to the one in Penang. It consists of ingredients like prawns, bits of lard, bean sprouts, chinese sausages, cockles and eggs. The bits of lard that was added in the Fried Kway Teow kind of exploded in my mouth when I chewed it.

- Small Prawn Bee Hoon

The Small Prawn Bee Hoon is tasty and the soup has a rich prawny taste that goes well with the bee hoon. I'm not a prawn lover but these small prawns was crunchy and the texture is wholesome. It's like eating dried shrimps. You can also find ingredients like kang kong, bean sprouts, hard boiled egg, sliced pork and prawns. This Small Prawn Bee Hoon is one of the better ones I have tasted.

- Assam Laksa

The Assam Laksa is absolutely awesome. The gravy is thick and richly filled with the goodness from the kampong fish that was used. This dish is an appetiser booster, the Assam Laksa has ingredients like onions, pineapples cubes, cucumber strips and not forgetting the chunks of fish meat. You can actually taste the fish meat unlike other Assam Laksa that I have tasted. This Assam Laksa is comparable to the one in Penang and it is highly recommended. This is one dish you cannot miss if you visit this restaurant.

- Crispy Tofu

The Crispy Tofu is pretty all right, it is crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The tofu is mixed with fish meat and the combination is good. Take note that this dish is enough for about 3 to 4 person.

- Baby Spinach Soup

The Baby Spinach Soup was delicious and the soup base was very thick, There are also eggs, salted eggs, century eggs, wolfberries and small bits of minced meat in the dish. On top of these, they added some crispy Ikan bilis on top making the texture even better when you chew it.

- Shrimp Paste Chicken

The Shrimp Paste Chicken was tasty and very crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.

Overall, I find that the food is good and definitely one of the better Penang Food around. You must try it if you are around the area.

Penang Delights

I was at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 for dinner today. It has been a few years since the last time I came here for a meal. I was walking around S11 Food Centre and noticed this stall selling Penang Prawn Noodles called Penang Delights. This is one stall that I have always wanted to try and hence I ordered a bowl of Penang Prawn Bee Hoon for S$3.50. The Prawn Bee Hoon was delicious and the soup was fillled with a rich prawny taste. The Prawn Bee Hoon consists of ingredients like prawns, sliced pork, kang kong and bean sprouts and it was garnished with lots of fried spring onions. This is definitely worth a try.

Jason Penang Cuisine

Today I had a craving for Penang Food and so I decided to head down to this stall at ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre called Jason Penang Cuisine. As usual, I would order their Hokkien Prawn Bee Hoon Soup and their Penang Char Kway Teow. The Hokkien Prawn Bee Hoon Soup is simply delicious, the soup has a rich prawny taste and there are ingredients like prawns, sliced pork, hard boiled egg and bean sprouts with lots of fried spring onions as garnish. The Bee Hoon is delicious after absorbing the flavour from the soup. This is one of the better Penang Food that I have tasted.

133 Penang Authentic Prawn Noodle/Char Kway Teow

After my morning exercise at Bukit Timah Hill, I went to Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre for breakfast today. I noticed that there was a Penang Food stall selling Penang delicacies. I decided to order the Hokkien Prawn Noodle Soup and Char Kway Teow. The Hokkien Prawn Noodle Soup is tasty and filled with a light prawny taste. It consists of ingredients like prawns, fish cake, hard boiled egg, kang kong and bean sprouts. If you like your noodles spicy, the chilli sauce will not only make the noodles spicy but also add more flavour to the dish. The Char Kway Teow is delicious and is not too salty, they added alot of bean sprouts to give it a clean and crunchy taste. You can find ingredients like prawns, cockles, fish cake, eggs and bean sprouts. Overall, I think it's worth giving this a try if you are around the area.

Gurney Drive

If you are looking for good Penang food, you have to check out this place called Gurney Drive at Suntec City. They have a wide selection of Penang delicacies. I ordered the famous Penang dishes like the Fried Kway Teow, Hokkien Prawn Noodles and Balacan Fried Chicken Wings. The Fried Kway Teow tastes good. the Kway Teow is very tasty and the ingredients are very fresh. You can find ingredients such as prawns, chinese sausages, cockles, bean sprouts and eggs. As for the Hokkien Prawn Noodles, the soup base is very tasty and has a rich prawny taste that is cooked with pork ribs. The chili sauce is added to make it spicy and it blends well into the soup.  You can find ingredients such as kang kong, fish cake, pork ribs, prawns and it's garnished with fried spring onions to make the dish complete. The Belachan Fried Chicken Wings are nice and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. If you want to have Penang food but don't want to travel to Malaysia, you can check out this place to satisfy your craving.

Penang Road Cafe

I decided to drop by Novena to check out this Penang Road Cafe. Heard that they serve very good Penang Char Kway Teow so I decided to try it for myself. I was browsing through their menu and noticed that they serve the typical Penang favourites such as the Hokkien Prawn Mee, Lor Bak, Assam Laksa and Char Kway Teow. I ordered the Char Kway Teow for myself and a Hokkien Prawn Mee for my wife that cost S$6.00 each respectively. For the Hokkien Prawn Mee they added sliced pork, bean sprouts, prawns and egg slices and garnished it with lots of spring onions. The soup base for the Hokkien Prawn Mee has a rich prawny taste but it's kindof sweet due to the prawn paste and brown sugar. I would prefer a rich soup base filled with prawn flavour that is cooked for long hours to bring out the taste. For the Char Kway Teow, they added lots of bean sprouts, cockles, prawns, eggs and chinese sausages. I find that the Kway Teow is not dry enough and a little oily but on a whole, the Kway Teow taste good especially with the chilli. If you have a strong craving for Penang food, you can check out this place to satisfy your craving.
