The Ship Restaurant (船餐厅酒店)

Today I was with my wife at Shaw Centre shopping for some stuff. As it was lunch time, I decided to head to The Ship Restaurant. This restaurant is well known for their Steak. I ordered a Fried Chicken with Hot Sauce set meal and a Sirloin Steak with Madeira Sauce set meal. The set meal comes with a Soup of the Day but I changed it to my favourite Russian Borshch. The Borshch Soup has a rich beefy soup base and has ingredients like bell pepper, carrots, cabbage and tomatoes. If you add some sour cream to the soup, it will taste even more appetising. The Fried Chicken is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The hot sauce tastes like BBQ sauce and goes well with the chicken. As for the Sirloin Steak, I requested for medium doneness but it was served as almost well done. Fortunately, it was still nice. The madeira sauce is delicious hence adding more flavour to the steak. The total bill is S$35.10. Overall, I find that the food is pretty good and value for money.

The Tavern Pub & Restaurant

I made a reservation for two during restaurant week at this restaurant, The Tavern Pub & Restaurant. This place is well known and frequently patronised by the rich and famous. It has a cosy cottage decor that makes you feel at home. The waiters are also very attentive and always waiting to serve you. Hmm...maybe because the restaurant wasn't crowded that night. I ordered the set dinner which consists of an appetiser or soup, choice of main course and desserts followed by coffee or tea. For appetisers, we ordered the Salad with Smoked Chicken, the lettuce in the salad was nice and crisp and the dish was garnished with croutons. The Smoked Chicken is tender and very thinly sliced. Next was the Soursop Sorbet which was cold and refreshing to chill our palette. As for the main course, we ordered a Pasta with Prawn Cubes and a Ribeye Steak. The pasta was pretty normal cause I don't think it's their specialty. As for the steak, it was nicely grilled with a little charred taste giving it the original beefy taste, the steak was nice and juicy. The dessert was Chestnut Puree with Vanilla Ice Cream. I find the dessert very unique, the combination was a pleasant surprise when you coat the Chestnut Puree with Vanilla Ice Cream. A couple of their signature dishes that are highly recommended are the Pan-Fried Fresh Goose Liver, Australian Ribeye Steak and Raclette Cheese. However, I find that the price is kindof pricey, no wonder it's for the rich and famous.

Stammtisch Restaurant

This restaurant is along Bukit Timah Road, well known by the people staying around the vicinity. The service is as great as the food. For starters, we ordered the Hungarian Goulash. It is very appetising and there are small cutes of beef, onions, carrots and potatoes. As for the main course, we ordered the Pork Knuckle and Pork Schinitzel. I must say this is the best Pork Knuckle that I have ever tasted. The Pork Knuckle is very crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The meat is so tender and juicy that it seems like they have stewed the Pork Knuckle. The brown sauce goes extremely well with the Pork Knuckle. I must say that when you are eating this dish, you don't feel "gelard" at all but the serving is enough for two unless you are a big eater or feeling extremely hungry that day. You can actually hear the crackling sound when you put the skin into your mouth like you are eating "Keropok". The restaurant also has other specialties such as the Pork Schinitzel. I must say the Pork Schinitzel is very crispy and well marinated. Overall the food is fantastic and definitely not to be missed.
