Today I checked out this famous White Bee Boon located at Sembawang called You Huak Restaurant. It is also known as Sembawang White Bee Hoon. When I was there, I noticed that there were people waiting for seats. As I scanned the eating house, there is a plate of White Bee Hoon on almost every table. I ordered a plate of Seafood White Bee Hoon, Meat and Seafood Roll and Indo Style Fried Chicken Wings. The Seafood White Bee Hoon was delicious, it has a strong seafood flavour and fresh ingredients. The bee hoon has absorbed the seafood gravy making it very tasty. The Meat and Seafood Roll is also pretty good, the outer crust is crispy and soft and tender on the inside. Lastly, the Indo Style Fried Chicken Wings are fried till it's crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The chicken is well marinated making it very tasty. Overall, I find that the food is pretty good and will definitely look forward to coming back again.

Fu Lin Tou Fu Yuen (福林豆腐园)
It has been a couple of years since I patronised this Yong Tau Foo stall called Fu Lin Tou Fu Yuen. This is one of my favourite Yong Tau Foo stalls. As usual, I like it 'dry' whereby they will deep fry the items. The items are deep fried till it's nice and crispy. Then they will pour their special minced chicken sauce over the Yong Tau Foo to add more flavour to the dish. You must order the Cuttlefish You Tiao. I will also order their bee hoon which is covered with their special minced chicken sauce. The bee hoon goes very well with the sauce. The texture of the bee hoon is smooth and with the special sauce, they glide down your throat.

Heng Gi Goose and Duck Rice
Braised Goose is one dish that you will not normally find in hawker centres. I happen to chance upon this stall called Heng Gi Goose and Duck Rice located at Tekka Food Centre. As usual, you will see a queue at the stall especially during lunch time. I ordered the goose meat as well as goose liver. The goose meat was tender and the braised sauce was not too salty. The goose liver tasted very creamy and wholesome. The texture is just nice, not too hard nor dry. The braised sauce also goes well with the white rice. Having said that, I must also say that there is not much significant difference between the goose meat and duck meat if you don't pay enough attention to it. Nevertheless, this is one rare dish in Singapore and you should give it a try if you happen to be around the area.
Lobster Porridge Long Xia Zhou Shi Jia
I am somewhat into Lobster Porridge these days. You will expect this dish to be rich in flavour especially when you use ingredients like the lobster. True enough, the soup has a rich lobster taste. The natural goodness of the lobster makes the soup and porridge extremely sweet and tasty. The flesh of the lobster is succulent and fresh but it will be even better if the lobster is bigger. It's a perfect dish for a rainy day. Here are some of the other dishes that we have ordered:
- Meijiang Smoked Duck Braised
The Smoked Duck is delicious, it is not too salty and the doneness of the duck is nice and tender. The skin has been smoked until it's crispy on the outer crust. This is one of the better ones I have tasted.
- Steamed Gentian Fish
The Steamed Gentian Fish is quite tasty especially with the special sauce that goes well with fish.
- Spicy Sotong
I find that this dish is pretty good, the spicy sauce has a tinge of sourish taste that makes it very appetising.
- Drunken Prawn
The Prawn is succulent and fresh, if you are a prawn lover you will like this dish.
- Fried Chicken with Garlic
The Fried Chicken is very tasty, it has been nicely marinated and has a strong taste of the garlic making it very fragrant. I find that this dish is pretty good.
- Tofu with Crabmeat
I find that this dish is pretty good, the tofu is smooth and silky. It was served in thick gravy and you can find shreds of crabmeat in the gravy.
- Stir Fried French Bean with Dried Shrimp
I find that this dish is pretty normal. I guess I would prefer home cooked French Beans instead. Nothing beats home cooked food.
- Shrimp Rolistick
Eating the Shrimp Rolistick is like eating thin springroll stuffed with prawn meat. It is pretty good but has to be eaten while it's nice and hot.
- Soft Shell Crab / Shimeiji Mushroom with Naibai Vegetables / Seafood Gyoza
Just one word - NORMAL.
Overall, I find the food is pretty good, you can check out this place to try out this unique delicacy.

Ke Shaun Xing Fried Carrot Cake
Whenever I have craving for Fried Carrot Cake (Black), I will think of this stall called Ke Shaun Xing Fried Carrot Cake located at North Bridge Road Market and Food Centre. The Fried Carrot Cake (Black) is not too sweet or too salty and it tastes just right. The carrot cake is nice and soft, I love it when it is piping hot, straight from the frying pan. The hawker is generous with the eggs making the dish even more tasty. This is one of the favourite Fried Carrot Cake (Black) stalls that I like to patronise, you should give it a try if you are around the area.
Peony Jade Restaurant
It's the time of the year to celebrate Father's day. This year, we went to Peony Jade Restaurant to check out their Ala-Carte Buffet. It has been quite a while since we visited this restaurant, I usually go there to attend weddings.. Here's what we ordered from the buffet menu.
- Lobster Salad
The Lobster Salad is appetising, the lobster is fresh and goes well with the mayonise and honeydew.
- Peking Duck
The Peking Duck is pretty good, it is roasted till the skin is nice and crispy making it taste very fragrant.
- Crispy Soft Shell Crab
Pretty normal.
- Braised Superior Shark Fin with Crabmeat
The Braised Shark Fin has smooth and thich te, I guess this dish will gradually be emoved from the menus now that many countries are begining to discourage people to protect the sharks.
- Drunken Prawn with Herbs
The Prawns are fresh and succulent and you can taste some mild herbs.
- Deep Fried Soon Hock
The Fried Soon Hock was kind of disappointing. You can taste the lack of freshness even though it's deep fried. I must comment that the doneness was very good though - very crispy.
- Stir Fried Venison with Black Pepper
The Stir Fried Venison is pretty good, the venison is nice and tender and the black pepper sauce gives the dish a little more spice that makes it tasty.
- Fried Carrot Cake with XO Chilli Sauce
The Fried Carrot Cake is delicious, the carrot cake is nice and soft and goes very well with the XO Chilli Sauce making the dish tasty and spicy.
- Char Siew Bao
The Char Siew Bao is a must try, the outer crust is nice and soft while the inside is filled with char siew and the char siew sauce that is waiting to explode. You must order this dish if it's available.
- Siew Mai
I find that the Siew Mai is pretty normal but I must comment that the ingredients are very fresh.
- Har Gao (Prawn Dumpling)
I'm not a har gao lover and I find this dish very normal. The ingredients are very fresh though.
Abalone with Mushroom and vegetables
The Abalone goes well with the abalone sauce that gives the dish a little more flavour, the mushroom is also very fragrant and goes well with the abalone sauce.
Overall, I find that the food is pretty good but kindof pricey.

Lao Huang Hakka Niang Tou Fu
When it comes to Yong Tau Foo, Hakka Yong Tau Foo is my favourite. Instead of fish paste fillings, you will usually find meat fillings in Hakka Yong Tau Fu. There is a stall located at North Bridge Road Market and Food Centre called Lao Huang Hakka Niang Tou Foo that serves pretty good Hakka Yong Tau Foo. I love the deep fried items such as the bean curd, meat ball and ngoh hiang. If you like your Yong Tau Foo with noodles, you must order their Minced Meat Noodles to go along. The minced meat is very fragrant because they fried the minced meat with fried onions. The texture and the doneness of the noodles is just nice and springy too. If you like Hakka Yong Tau Foo, you should check out this stall.
Chui Xiang Kitchen (醉香小厨)
I am not a fan of seafood, but I tend to have an inclination in Lobster Porridge. Today, I'm brought my wife to Commonwealth to check out the Lobster Porridge at this place called Chui Xiang Kitchen. Heard that this place serves very good Lobster Porridge and they are well known for their fine culinery skills. Here's what we have ordered: -
- Lobster Porridge
The Lobster Porridge is delicious. The soup is very tasty and sweet with a mild seafood taste. The Lobster is fresh and succullent. If you are lobster lover, you will love this dish.
