Hong Kee Porridge

Today, I was at Commonwealth Food Centre to look for good food hidden in this part of the island. While I was looking around and deciding what to eat, I noticed this porridge stall that has newspaper articles pasted on the glass panel. The porridge looks good too and without any hesitation, I ordered a bowl of Pork Porridge with an Egg. The Pork Porridge was very tasty. The texture of the porridge was watery and not the thick and sticky type but having said that, the porridge was filled with the goodness from the slice pork, homemade meatballs, liver and eggs. The ingredients are very fresh, especially the liver and pork. The porridge was pretty good. I think it would have been even better if they add fried spring onions and lard to make it more fragrant. You can check out this stall especially on a rainy day to warm your stomach.

Shin Minori Japanese Restaurant

It has been a while since I had Japanese Food. Today  I had dinner with my family at this Japanese Restaurant called Shin Minori. Heard that this place serves pretty good Japanese Food. I decided to go for their Ala-Carte Buffet and the cost per person is S$33++. Here's what we have ordered:

- Sashimi Moriwase

The Sashimi Moriwase has assorted Sashimi like Maguro, Shake, Hamachi, Taj, Makajiki, Tako and Ika. The Sashimi is fresh and the thickness of each slice is just nice, not too thick or thin. Most importantly, you are able to taste the sweetness of each of the seafood.

- Saba Shioyaki

Saba is also known as Mackerel. It was grilled till it's nice and crispy on the outside and each slice simply tastes wholesome.

- Tebasaki

Tebasaki, also known as Chicken Wings, is delicious and fragrant. The chicken wings are grilled till the skin is crispy and fragrant.

- Tori Kawa

Tori Kawa, also known as Chicken Skin, is grilled till the chicken skin is nice and crispy.

- Tori Kimo

The Tori Kimo, also known as Chicken Liver is pretty normal in my opinion.

- Shishamo

The Pregnant Capelin is grilled till it's very crispy but I find that it's too charred, making some parts very bitter.

- Uzura

Uzura, also known as Quail Eggs is pretty normal.

- Kisu Tempura

Kisu Tempura is deep fried fish covered with batter just like Prawn Tempura, you can dip it in a sweet sauce filled with Radish to give it more flavour.

- Kani Tempura

Kani, also known as Soft Shell Crab is very tasty and crispy. I will highly recommend this dish, it's just like eating "Keropok".

- Agedashi Toufu

Their Agedashi Toufu is crispy on the outer crust and soft on the inside. The chicken broth goes well with the toufu, giving the dish more flavourful.

- Niku Jaga

This dish is Stewed Pork Belly with Potato and Carrot. The pork belly is very tender and it has absorbed the  sweetness from the carrots. The carrots and potatoes are stewed till they are nice and soft. You can taste the natural sweetness of this combination.

- Shake Wafu Teppan

This dish is Salmon cooked in a special sauce using the Teppan. The Salmon is soft and it has absorbed the sweet sauce and garlic and it is quite tasty.

- Ton Katsu

I find that the Ton Katsu is pretty normal.

- Buta Kimchi Itame

This Kimchi with Pork is very appetising, the kimchi is sourish and a little spicy, adding more flavour to the sliced pork.

Overall, I find that the food is pretty good and the buffet has a wide variety of choices to choose from. For buffet lovers, you can check out this place for reasonably priced buffet. However, do be prepared for service lapse as they can be quite slow on busy days and your orders may be left out. Do keep track of your orders and ensure that they are served.

Rong Guang BBQ Seafood

I have noticed this Rong Guang BBQ Seafood at Bukit Merah Lane 1 for quite some time but didn't had a chance to try it out. There are numerous awards at the stall including, "Yummy King". Today I was around the vicinity and decided to give it a try. I ordered their Sambal Stingray and a plate of their Signature Noodles. The Sambal Stingray is superb, the sambal chilli is spicy and very tasty. The stingray is barbequed till the meat is nice and juicy. The sambal chilli sauce goes extremely well with the stingray but it can be quite spicy for those who do not take spicy food. Their Signature Noodles looks and tastes like Hokkien Mee. The only difference is that they added clams into the dish. The noodle is tasty as it has absorbed the goodness of the seafood. You can find ingredients like prawns, sotong, eggs, bean sprouts and clams. The sambal chilli also goes well with the noodles, adding more flavour and spice to the dish.

Overall, I find that the food is pretty good and for BBQ lovers out there, you can check out this place.

Dian Xiao Er

It has been quite some time since I had dinner at Dian Xiao Er. I decided to go there for dinner today with my wife. They are well know for their Roast Duck. Here's what we have ordered:

- Roasted Duck with Ten Wonder Herb

The Ten Wonder Herbs has a sweet herbal taste that goes well with the Roast Duck. The duck is roasted till the skin is nice and crispy. The skin is thin and very fragrant, the meat is also soft and tender. Their Roasted Duck is indeed very good and you must try it yourself to believe.

- Roasted Duck with Ginseng

The Ginseng adds more flavour to the Roast Duck making it more fragrant with a slight tinge of bitterness. The duck is basically the same as the one with Ten Wonder Herbs, only that the sauce that was poured over the duck is different. This is salted while the other is sweet.

- Fish Maw Thick Soup with Canpoy

The Fish Maw Soup is delicious, it is thick and very tasty. If you add vinegar into the soup, it will enhance the flavour, making it more appetising. You can also find ingredients like chicken strips, fish maw, sea cucumber and dried scallops. If you like a thick soup base, you will find this dish to your liking. But remember to eat it while it is hot or it can taste too choying.

- Chinese Spinach in Superior Stock

I find that the Chinese Spinach is pretty normal and can be better if the stock is thicker and tastier. However, I must say that the baby anchovies that were added were crispy and very fragrant. The wolfberries also gave the dish a tinge of sweetness.

- Claypot Bee Hoon with Chinese Wine

The Claypot Bee Hoon with Chinese Wine is delicious. The soup has a strong taste of chinese wine and you can find ingredients like prawns and frog legs that are fresh and succullent. I must also mention the fresh prawn paste found in the prawn head that makes it even sweeter. The bee hoon has absorbed the thick soup base hence making it very tasty. Every mouthful is so satisfying.

Overall, I find that the food is pretty good especially the Roast Duck. For all Roast Duck lovers out there, you can check out this place if you have not.

Tong Lok Kway Chap

I decided to head down to Pasir Panjang today to check out this Kway Chap stall called Tong Lok Kuay Chap. I wanted to check out this Kway Chap stall a couple of times but each time I'm there, it's either closed or the owner is away. Today is my lucky day, the stall was open when I was there, I ordered a plate of mixed ingredients for 1 person and that cost S$4.00 with 2 bowls of "Kway". You can find ingredients like tau pok, salted vegetables, pig intestines and lor bak. I have high expectation for Kway Chap, especially the "Kway", which I think is the main element of the dish. I find that their Kway can be even better if the soup is thicker and tastier. They can also add fried spring onions to make it even more fragrant. The salted vegetables are not too salty and I find it just nice. The tau pok is nicely soaked with the stewed sauce. As for the pig intestines, it is stewed till it's nice and soft. It has been cleaned thoroughly and that is why it does not have any bitter or strong porky taste. Lastly the lor bak is highly recommended, the taste is heavenly. The lor bak is stewed till it's so soft that even the layer of fat just dissolve in your mouth. This is one of the best lor bak I have tasted. You must order the lor bak if you are checking out this stall.

Soup Restaurant

I was back at Seah Street today for dinner at Soup Restaurant. It has been quite some time since I ate at Soup Restaurant. As usual, I ordered their signature dishes, Samsui Chicken and Penang Fried Mee Suah. Needless to say, their Samsui Chicken is indeed very tender, even the skin is so soft and silky. The chicken goes very well with their homemade ginger sauce. You can also eat the chicken wrapped in cabbage. The cabbage makes the texture a little more crunchy and juicy giving it a refreshing taste. The Penang Fried Mee Suah it is very tasty. You can find ingredients like chicken, eggs, prawns, bean sprouts, onions and mushrooms. Overall, I find that the food is pretty good and you can check out this place especially if you have craving for chicken rice.

Sin Swee Kee Chicken Rice Restaurant

It has been quite a while since I had time to check out new food. I was at Seah Street today for dinner and I remembered having chicken rice at one of the shophouses there many years back. I decided to check out the chicken rice at this Sin Swee Kee Chicken Rice Restaurant. I ordered half a Chicken and a plate of Hongkong Kailan with Oyster Sauce. The chicken was delicious, it was tasty and tender even tough it was breast meat. The rice was soft and fragrant, it tastes good even on it's own. It was even better than I had expected. The ginger and chilli sauce goes well with the chicken, the chilli sauce was a little spicy and it added more flavour to the chicken. The ginger was fragrant and very tasty, it tastes like the one at Soup Restaurant. As for the Hongkong Kailan with Oyster Sauce, I find that it was pretty normal. Overall, I find that the Chicken Rice is one of the better ones I have ever tasted.

Margaret Drive Teochew Fishball Noodles

I was at Bedemeer Food Centre again today to check out this famous Fishball noodles stall that was previously located at Margaret Drive. I ordered a bowl of Mee Pok dry with chilli for only S$2.50. They were very generous with their serving of noodles. I had wanted to add more noodles but I was warned beforehand that the portion is quite alot and true enough it was just nice for me. The texture of the Mee Pok was springy and goes well with the chilli sauce. They added alot of fried garlic and lard making it very fragrant. The fishballs were also very fresh and springy, I find that the soup had a natural flavour of the fishballs and the "Tang Chai" added a little more flavour to it. This is one of the better Fishball Noodles I have tasted. Fans of this Margaret Drive Fishball Noodles, you can finally check out this stall again.

Sims Place Prawn Noodles

I went to Bendemeer Market and Food Centre for lunch today. I ordered a bowl of Pork Rib Bee Hoon Soup with Pig Intestines from this stall called Sims Place Prawn Noodles. This is one of my favourite stalls at Bendemeer Food Centre. This stall has awards and recommendations by the various variety show such as City Beat. The Pork Rib Bee Hoon was fantastic. The pork ribs were cooked till it's nice and soft. The soup was tasty and is filled with the sweetness from the prawns and pork ribs. The pig intestines are fresh, cleaned thoroughly and does not taste bitter. The fried spring onions and lard that was added into the soup to make it even more fragrant. This is definitely one of the better ones I have tasted. You must check out this stall to believe.

Shun Li Fried Oysters

I was at Bukit Merah Lane 1 food centre today for dinner and I had a craving for Fried Oyster Omelette. I noticed that there was a newspaper writeup on this stall called Shun Li Fried Oysters many years back and therefore I decided to order a plate of Fried Oyster Omelette for S$5.00. The Fried Oyster Omelette is tasty and if you like your omelette soft and fluffy, this dish will definitely meet your expectations. I find that the oysters are pretty normal but it goes well with the chilli sauce. Overall, I find that the Oyster Omelette is tasty but I would like the outer crust to be crispier to give it that explosive feeling in your mouth.
