Shi Hui Yuan Hor Fun Speciality

I wanted to check out this stall called Shi Hui Yuan Hor Fun at Mei Chin Road last week but it was closed. Determined to try their Hor Fun, I made another trip there today. Ironically, I was delighted to see a long queue at the stalI. I ordered a plate of Hor Fun with Sliced Duck and Chicken for S$4.00. The hor fun was silky  and smooth. The gravy is tasty and has a little herbal taste. The sliced duck was tender and very fragrant but the chicken was pretty normal. You can also find ingredients like baby Nai Bai and braised mushrooms. Overall, I find that it's worth a try.

Tian Jin Fong Kee

If you are looking for a snack or something light, you can check out this stall at People's Park Food Centre called Tian Jin Fong Kee. A plate has 12 pieces of Pan Fried Dumplings costs S$6.00. The dumplings are pan fried till the crust is crispy on the outside and filled with the juicy meat on the inside. The vinegar and ginger goes very well with the dumplings, making it more appetising. However, I find that they can add more meat fillings to make it wholesome. You can give it a try especially if you want a side dish to share with your friends or family.

Qiang Fu Ji

There is a stall called Qiang Fu Ji at People's Park Cooked Food Centre which never fails to satisfy my palate with their porridgeI . On this day, I ordered a bowl of Mixed Pork Porridge with an egg for S$4.00. The porridge is smooth and delicious. It is also tasty and has a rich flavour that comes from the fresh ingredients like the pig liver, pig stomach and sliced pork. It is garnished with lots of fried spring onions which made it even more fragrant. Overall, I find that this is one of the better ones I have tasted.

Shenton Way Power Stall

I was at Ayer Rajah Food Centre for dinner today. As usual, I would order from this stall called Shenton Way Power Stall. If you are at the stall, you can see awards like Makansutra being displayed. I ordered a plate of Bee Hoon Goreng with Chicken instead of the usual mutton this time as I'm sharing it with my wife who dislikes mutton. The Bee Hoon Goreng was delicious and very tasty, not bland nor too salty. The chunks of chicken that was added into the Bee Hoon Goreng adds more flavour and taste to the dish. This is definitely one of the better ones I have tasted. You must try it yourself to believe.

Yi Sheng Gong Fu

Each time I go to Old Airport Road Food Centre, I will usually order the Wantan Mee or Hokkien Mee. However, these 2 stalls are not opened today so I decided to order a plate of Fried Carrot Cake from this Yi Sheng Gong Fu stall. I remembered that their Fried Carrot Cake was pretty good and true enough, it is tasty and crispy on the outside. The Carrot Cake is also nice and soft. Overall, I find that the Carrot Cake was pretty good and it'll make a good choice if you do not want something heavy. You can give it a try if you are around the area.

Ipoh Hor Fun

The Fountain Food Terrace at Suntec City is one food court whereby you'll find many stalls and variety to choose from but I would usually order Curry Pork Chop Hor Fun from this Ipoh Hor Fun stall. Instead of using noodles to go with Curry Mee, this stall actually uses hor fun. Surprisingly, the hor fun goes pretty well with the curry. The curry is tasty but I think that the gravy can be thicker. The pork chop is well marinated and it's nice and tender on the inside. The pork chop is one of the better ones I have tasted. Overall, I find that the Curry Pork Chop Hor Fun is pretty good especially for the pork chop. You can give it a try if you are around the area.

Yong Fa Cantonese Roast Meat

Today I was around Sim Ming area for lunch with some of my colleagues. We decided to check out this stall called Yong Fa Cantonese Roast Meat. We ordered a plate of Roast Duck, Roast Meat and Char Siew. The meat of the Roast Duck is very lean but a little too dry but the skin I must say is very fragrant and crispy. As for the Roast Meat, I find that the layer of fat can be very "gelard" and maybe if they slice the pork in thinner slices it might be better. As for the Char Siew, it is very well marinated with the char siew sauce and it is nice and charred. The Char Siew is also soft and tender although it is slightly charred. Overall, this is definitely one of the better Char Siew I have tasted. You can give it a try if you are around the area.

Lai Lai Kitchen (来来小厨)

I was at Jurong Point for lunch today. I decided to head down to this stall called Lai Lai Kitchen to have a plate of Soya Sauce Chicken Rice with Char Siew. I ordered a plate of Soya Sauce Chicken Rice with Char Siew for S$6.00. The soya sauce chicken was fragrant and tender, the braised sauce that poured over the rice adds more flavour to the rice and chicken. Don't forget to add the sambal chilli sauce, it goes very well with the rice and chicken. I find that the char siew is well marinated and can be a little more charred to make it even more fragrant. Overall, I find that the food served by this stall is pretty good, definitely above average. You can give it a try if you are around the area.

Hai Tang Lor Mee

I was at Mei Chin Road Market today for breakfast. As usual, I was walking around the hawker centre to look around for good food. I noticed that there was a queue at this Lor Mee stall called Hai Tang Lor Mee. I decided to join in the queue and ordered a bowl of Lor Mee for S$2.50. The Lor Mee was very tasty but I find that the gravy can be more gluey and thicker. I like the fried pork strips that were added in the Lor Mee, it was very tender and fragrant. You can also find ingredients like stewed hard boiled egg, lor bak, ngoh hiang, fishcake and bean sprouts. Overall, I find that this Lor Mee is pretty good and you can give it a try if you are around the area.

Puttu Piring

If you ask me where is the best Puttu Piring I have ever tasted, I will you tell you it's at Haig Road. Puttu Piring is like the Malay version of Tu Tu Kueh except that the filing is neither peanut nor grated coconut but gula melaka. You can always find a queue at this Puttu Piring stall at Haig Road. You can find numerous awards by the various variety shows as well as makansutra. I was driving along Haig Road today and my wife had the sudden craving for it. I parked the car and joined in the queue for a good 20 minutes to buy 3 packets of Puttu Piring. Each packet costs $1.00 and there are 3 Puttu Piring in it. They have to steam the Puttu Piring at the right temperature and the flour is not just plain flour. They have to mix it with other ingredients such as starch and mix it their age-old secret recipe. The Puttu Piring is nice and moist and  the texture is very soft. The gula melaka will flow out of the kueh when you put in your mouth. You can also have  salted grated coconut to go with the Puttu Piring and the taste is just awesome. Remember to eat it while it's hot.
